 Layang Layang

Malaysia, Spratlys

English (Traducir este texto en Español): Swallow Reef, only a name not really so, (Layang Layang or Terumbu Layang Layang or Pulau Layang-Layang) is a small island (is the tip of an underwater volcano whose caldera formed the lagoon) part of the Spratlys (300 km northwest of Kota Kinabalu in the south China sea). The artificial landstrip with the lodgings is only 2 kilometer long. The most important thing is that it is a wall coming up from 2.550 meters and the pelagic fish comes up from down there.

Layang Layang can only be reached by airplane from Kota Kinabalu (1 hour flight). There is only one resort on the artificial island, so all diving is done from there on the outside of the lagoon that is 40 hectars wide. Because of the monsoon, Layang Layang is open only between February and the end of October.

This is a world-class scuba destination. This small island has a dozen of outstanding dive sites all around the lagoon. It's a very famous for its wall dives and large pelagic species, including hammerhead sharks (April-May), grey reef sharks, white-tip reef sharks...
