Only few kilometers from the sea, was already founded in the early Middle Ages. It was in fact a villa of the Giudicato di Gallura. Its economic bloom was under the Pisan barons of the family Guiso. Orosei then later was the capital of the Sardinian region of Baronie.
Today Orosei has 5000 inhabitants with a small, historic local center and characteristic "Piazzetta", medieval and baroque buildings, as well as beautiful sacred buildings, that give a country-typical, Mediterranean atmosphere to this place.
Orosei and the nearby Cala Liberotto and Capo Comino are a well know towns on the Sardinian eastcoast with long, beautiful beaches and 2 important wrecks from the second world war beneath various unspoiled dive sites.
